My week with Mortimer’s and Give Away for one lucky winner!

I’m the type of person that proudly shares that I got my shirt for $6 or that the gourmet tasting cookies are actually made from a box . I just have such a thrill finding bargains while shopping  or short cuts to recipes that I must share with anyone I encounter. I am the kooky lady talking to strangers about random tips and tricks.  Today’s post is about my latest ‘find’, trust me you’ll love it too. Especially when you find out the  give away associated with it!

The moment I heard about Halal meat pies that are ready to eat within minutes, I knew  we would be BF’s..but I had no idea we would be BFF’s ( yes, I’ve been hanging with my little cousins a tad too much).

Mortimer's Halal Kitchen

Mortimer’s Halal Kitchen

In the past a ready to go meal was always a compromise between eating something with meat and flavourful but stinking up the lunchroom or inconspicuously eating some bland macaroni without attracting extra attention. Mortimer’s Halal On The Go immediately piqued my interest.. HMA Certified Halal meat?, Convenient? Wholesome ingredients? No MSG and artificial flavours? But it must not be flavourful. I immediately agreed to test them out and have not looked back ever since. (more…)

First Fabulous Friday of 2016

Salaamz !

Alas another week and all I’m posting is a fabulous Friday (sigh). Just letting you  know there’s a particular article I’m working on that -much to my husband’s annoyance- I’ve re-written about 11 times already! I know that’s kinda crazy but…I can’t  help it! It’s just not what I want it to be yet. Insha’Allah soon – make duah I get out of this writers block!

So three fabulous things this week that I MUST share with my awesome readers are:

  1. Josie Maran Skin Care Essentials

    Josie Maran Skin Care Essentials

Josie Maran skin care essentials. This is not an affiliate post; I don’t get paid for my opinions.. but hey Josie, feel free to send some cash my way! This was a gift from my older sister Naila. She keeps me in the know with the latest and greatest in beauty products/ trends. Her advice is always worth its weight in gold; she is a successful make-up artist in the GTA Masha’ Allah.

Naila Rana GTA Make Up Artist

Check out her Instagram account here (after years of being in business, she finally made an account!). Not only does she introduce me to ‘what’s trending now’, she buys it for me too! Seriously, I think when she goes shopping she buys ‘one for me, one for Sahar!’ Yes, I know I’m incredibly lucky to have this amazing Sugar Mama Sista. On top of being super generous and highly talented, she’s a pretty awesome person too. Ok, losing focus, enough about Naila, back to Josie (I initially thought Josie was a Spanish man, I read it like Jose..hmm maybe there’s a reason why I don’t have affiliate connections with her lol). When I opened the box, there were so many little viles that I became intimidated. I really don’t have the time or patience for things that have multiple complicated steps. So back in the box it went. After seeing no improvement in my skin, Naila asked me if I had started using it or not. Apparently the results are so obvious within a short period of time, that she could clearly tell I hadn’t started using it!

Josie Maran Argan Oil and Argan Milk

Josie Maran Argan Oil and Argan Milk

I was intimidated for no reason! The actual skin care regimen is just two steps. The Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment and the 100% Pure Argan Oil. Rub 3-5 drops of the milk on your clean face and follow up with the oil. That’s it! The other bottles were for hair, body and pre-makeup prep. So I’ve been using it and loving it! I re-apply the oil a few times a day because of doing wudu several times a day. This is the best thing I’ve done for my face in forever!

Resilience and Fabulous Friday

Yaaay  it’s Friday! Anyone have any Black Friday shopping plans? I’m in the market for a printer. My last printer was pretty basic but got the job done. The best part was that it only cost $30.Unfortunately it is now just another name to add to the list of things my little one broke. No joke, this kid has some sort of ‘talent’ for destruction.

Hopefully I’ll get a decent one soon. I’ll have to keep it on top of my book shelf. There’s so much to consider when buying a printer- especially the cost of ink overtime. To read a pretty helpful article on ‘inkonomics’ click here.

Women only event at ISNA Nov. 29, 2015 resilience-real-women-extraordinary-struggles-unwavering-perseverance

Who’s going to the Resilience event this Sunday at ISNA? I’ve been looking forward to it since my friends told me about it. I’ve always had a soft spot for the rags to riches or the from zero to hero story. The underlying theme being that life can do a complete 180 turn for the better Insha’Allah. I love hearing real-life stories of how people overcame obstacles or tragedies. Just listening to their journey of resilience  from calamity to survivor is incredibly inspiring. (more…)

Part 3: 10 things I learned after 10 years of marriage

Salaamz guys,

So we celebrated our Anniversary this Wednesday.. Allhumdullillah it was great! Technically there’s more celebrating left to do- we were planning a mini vacation, going away for a couple of nights somewhere local. We haven’t settled on where because we have yet to make a decision on whether or not the kids will be joining us. We’ve never spent the night apart from our youngest; he’s not two yet. I’m not sure if I would be able to enjoy our vacation because I would be too worried about how he’s doing. Sigh. So it’ll have to be a place that has activities for the kids.

Our actual anniversary was one long gluttonous day. We pretty much did a couple of outfit changes and ate out all day. Guilt free -I will hit the gym everyday for the next month- order the most expensive item off the menu – kind of day. My only regret is not taking many pictures. We are horrible with selfies and the restaurant we had dinner at was very dimly lit. The candle light dinner was ,more of a tiny pen light dinner.

10 years! Allhumdullilah, can’t believe it! So much has changed since then.

'Regret that we had Siamese Attachment Surgery? Never!'

‘Regret that we had Siamese Attachment Surgery? Never!’

When we first got married we were that annoying couple that makes you wanna cringe and gag. Just for the record, I DON’T MEAN PDA.  We couldn’t bear spending time without each other and when were apart we would be texting each other constantly. I’m pretty sure we drove our family and friends up the wall!

Why the exceptionally long honeymoon stage?

I believe a lot has to do with the fact that the entire experience was so new for us. Neither of us ever dated or had a romantic relationship  prior to being married. Even our courtship was very dry and by the book. Our interactions were always purposeful and limited to what was necessary. There was nothing romantic about it! So  moments after our nikkah we truly began to freely talk and get to know each other. We made up for a lifetime deprived of romance. My sister and sister in law are probably rolling their eyes right  It was beautiful. We were on cloud nine everyday. I had never been happier in my life.

We’re a lot ‘better’ now, Aside from making a conscious decision to not be so joined at the hip, time, children and life in general helped as well.

Today’s post was supposed to be two points of what I learned after 10 years of marriage. Instead I had to cut it down to one point because I kept writing  and writing subtopics. Sorry! I’m really working on my excessive post lengths! (more…)

Playing Hooky and Day Dating

The first time I ever played hooky was in grade 9 . It was a half day before exam week and our teachers practically begged us to skip class. They assigned us our homework the day before and informed us that no lesson will be taught that day but we could come if we wanted to. Overwhelmed by my first set of exams, I was planning on being that annoying kid even teachers hate attending class before I was intercepted by two of my overly hyper friends. They were standing outside my class  bouncing from excitement. This was it, we were going to do it!

We skipped the whole day.

It was thrilling!

Death by Chocolate

Death by Chocolate

We hopped on a bus to the nearest mall and ate ‘Death by Chocolate’ at JJ Muggs. They served the dessert in champagne glass type bowl the size of my head. It took four of us to finish it. Not only was it the yummiest dessert  I had ever force fed myself, it spurred us into all sorts of philosophical -non exam related-conversations.

Would we like to die eating chocolate? How would we like to die? Would Nick Carter of the Backstreet boys like to die eating chocolate? OMG..what would we do if he died??? (more…)
