Ramadan Ready Already ?

So..Ramadan is about 2 months away..are you ready for it?

Some of  you might think it’s too early to start getting Ramadan ready but truth is I should have started writing about it 4 months ago. The Sahabas (RA) used to start preparing for Ramadan 6 months in advance. Why? Because they understood how valuable every single second of this blessed month is and didn’t want to waste a moment.

Think back to last Ramadan. On a scale of 1 to 10  how satisfied were you with your worship? Did you change for the better once Ramadan was over? Was there anything you wish you had done differently?

Ramadan is our annual Spiritual Boot Camp. It is a time in which we cleanse our bodies and souls through fasting. We purge and detoxify them so that we can recharge our engines for the rest of the year. Ramadan is our chance to have our previous years’ sins forgiven and to have every single good deed we do to be multiplied by 70! As you can see, it’s far too important to waste a second.

The purpose of this post is to identify factors that prevent you from having the optimal Ramadan experience and to come up with realistic solutions. Insha’Allah this will be your best Ramadan so far!!

ramadan 2017 planner

Start planning for your optimal Ramadan now!

I highly recommend pulling out your planner or calendar at this point so you can immediately record your goals and plans as you read along.

Common Problems that sabotage your ideal Ramadan experience:

1. Caffeine withdrawal.

Clearly this girl loves her chai.. my morning chai is very important for the safety and well-being of others. I used to be in zombie mode the first week or two of Ramadan. I was more focused on my headaches and grogginess than on spiritual enlightenment.

Solution: depending on how hooked on caffeine you are, start reducing your caffeine consumption starting now. It’s better to get your caffeine withdrawl out of the way before Ramadan.

2. Sleep deprivation.

Waking up 2 hours earlier than you’re used to can be extremely difficult for many.

Solution: Set your alarm to  your expected Suhoor time a couple times each week.Get used to eating a small meal and reading some Quran at that time.

3. Not accomplishing or having any goals.

As the saying goes, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Many miss the point of this holy month by not bringing any positive changes to their lives.

Solution: Read this article for more information on how to set and attain your goals.

4. Having no relationship with the Quran.

When you hear the word Ramadan usually the first word that comes to your mind is fasting..it should actually be Quran! The Quran and Ramadan have a very special relationship. It was during Ramadan that the Quran was revealed.

Solution: Regardless of where you are on the spectrum of barely knowing the alphabets to hafidh…you need a Quran game plan. Set a goal. What do you want to accomplish? Break it down into 30 days and start practicing now.

5. Taraweeh Salah burnout.

Praying 20 rakahs (or 8) after Isha every night can leave you with sore legs.

Solution: Start adding 2 nawafl rakahs to your Isha salah every week. Eventually praying 10 extra rakahs won’t feel like a physical feat.

6. Wasting the best hours of the year shopping:

being me 2017

Get all your shopping out of the way at the & gift wrapped BeingME 2017 conference !

We’ve all been there; trying to get our Eid shopping done during the last few nights of Ramadan. Those also happen to be the best nights of the entire year!

Solution: Get your Eid shopping out of the way before Ramadan begins. Every second of Ramadan is precious, Wouldn’t you rather harvest enormous amounts of good deeds for your eternal life than wander around the mall hunting for the perfect gift? On May 13, 2017 the Being ME conference at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre is the perfect one stop bazaar to get all your Ramadan Décor and Eid gifts out of the way. There will even be a gift wrap station so you don’t have to worry about that either!

7. Eating unhealthy meals.

Ramadan Ready Book

E-book full of healthy recipes

Every year we vow not to eat the fried or sugary junk for iftaar but every year we succumb to its delicious aroma and regret eating it when we feel gross and lethargic a couple hours later

Solution: Meal Plan. If your fridge and pantry is already full with nutritious foods and you have a list of healthy recipes on hand- you are far more likely to stand up to bad foods.Check out my e-book Ramadan Ready for healthy tips and recipes for the optimal Ramadan experience.

8. Wasting time:

Since every single good deed you do during this month is multiplied by 70, it’s a great time to engage in as many acts of thawab as possible.

Solution:  come up with a list of good deeds you want to do and plan out when you want to do them. Example: feed one family per week, visit a soup kitchen the first Saturday of Ramadan, make arrangements to visit the sick at a hospital or Seniors home. (some places have strict requirements and require advanced preparations).

9. Not maximizing every penny.

Typically the most amount of charity we give is our Zakah. Ramadan is the ideal time to pay your Zakah because of the fact that the reward is 70 times more.

Solution: Calculate how much you owe in Zakah and start budgeting to ensure you have enough by Ramadan.

10.Not having a Dua List.

This month is the jackpot of getting your duas answered.. think big, hold nothing back and write every single wish or dua in a list/dua book that you refer to often. Check out this post for ways to increase your chances of dua coming true.

I pray you found this post helpful and I REALLY hope you made notes in your planner for when you plan to prepare for Ramadan. It’s a good idea to start asking Allah SWT to make this coming Ramadan AMAZING on every level.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could share this article with your family and friends so that they can benefit as well by getting Ramadan ready right away.
