Have you guys had a chance to read yesterday’s post about this months blog series on love, marriage and relationships? According to Google Analytics and from the response I have been receiving from you guys- this seems like a pretty popular topic! That’s good to know because love and marriage is one of my favourite topics to discuss.
A point within the realm of love and marriage that deserves special attention is Dating Your Spouse. In my post on Day Dating, I discussed the virtues of making time for your spouse and nurturing your relationship – especially after kids. Unfortunately most couples don’t make the time or effort to add some much needed fun into their marriage, and some that are interested are lost for ideas.
Worry not, I decided to incorporate the weekly Fabulous Friday into the Anniversary theme with: Halal Date ideas. Every Friday, for the month of November I will list three Halal date ideas that are more creative than ‘dinner and a movie’.
As I mentioned here, us Muslims find it challenging to do something social or fun that doesn’t involve going to a restaurant! Don’t get me wrong, I am crazy grateful for all the Halal food options but wish there were more Halal Fun options.
Go to a Board Game Cafe:
Snakes & Lattes is Toronto’s first board game cafe. For $5 dollars you can stay as long as you like to enjoy their 2,400 board games! Playing games is a great way to relax and explore each others personality while having fun.
2. Bring half the date.
Assign one person to arrange the meal and the other person to come up with the venue.
The meal: pack a picnic basket with plates, eating utensils, a blanket to sit on and a yummy meal (store bought or homemade- your choice).
Venue: choose a place with a beautiful view, sentimental value or historical significance. Set up your picnic and enjoy!
Examples: a park, beach, beautiful waterfall, hill top, forest etc.
What I love about this idea is that it’s some sort of physical activity that doesn’t involve bouncing around, sweating like a pig or making a fool out of yourself. You can remain classy and poised while you unleash your inner Katniss!
Did you know archery is a sunnah??
The Prophet once passed by some people of the tribe of Bani Aslam who were practicing archery. The Prophet said:
“O Bani Isma`il ! Practice archery as your father Isma`il was a great archer. Keep on throwing arrows and I am with Bani so-and-so.” [Bukhari]
Hope you enjoyed these ideas and are looking forward to three more ideas next week!
What do you guys do for halal fun and halal dates?
