Fabulous Friday

I’m still huffing and puffing from sending the hubby and my eldest out the door. Why are all mornings so hectic?
I hate sending my son off to school by yelling at him or scolding him.. but he just won’t wake up! Asking him nicely 46 times is not nearly as effective as ‘That’s it! GET UUUUPPPP!!’ Then everything goes according to schedule and I hate myself all day long for being so mean first thing in the morning and last thing before he sets off to spend the day without me. This happens almost twice a week.
But every Saturday and Sunday he’s bright eyed and bushy-tailed at 7am – without exception!
It’s not just mornings that have become hectic, as I mentioned last month I am taking the Ladypreneur 101 Course from The Business Boutique. It’s intense! I love how it’s forcing me to make sense of my bazillion ‘amazing’ ideas. I’m behind in my homework, my room is covered in sticky notes, days feel like hours and ‘real-life’ is just getting in the way of me actualizing my ideas! The experience of taking this course is unlike any other schooling or class I’v ever taken because I’m planning on applying 100% of the course material. It’s not about getting the right answer, it’s about truly learning so you don’t waste a bunch of money! It’s exciting and scary all at the same time. Make duah for me please!

So now on to my weekly round up of all things fabulous.

Fabulous Friday

1) A Temporary Gift

Asmaa Hussein lived my worst nightmare. The sudden death of her beloved husband. Not only did she endure one of the greatest tragedies , she rose up resilient, strong and inspiring. She created one of my favourite blog’s ‘Ruqaya’s bookshelf‘ a digital library where she stores letters for her daughter to read , she writes awesome children’s books and now a book about her experience.
This woman is phenomenal Masha’Allah. May Allah SWT grant her , her husband, her daughter and their respective families the absolute best in this life and in the Hereafter. Ameen.

Please support the publishing of her book here.

2) Verse 238 in Surah Al Baqarah

While I was doing research for an upcoming article on marital conflict I discovered something intriguing.
Embedded between the verses about divorce in Surah Baqarah is a verse on salah.

حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَىٰ وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ
Guard your Salah (obligatory regular prayers) especially the middle Salah and stand up with true devotion to Allah.
The Qu’ran goes from talking about mahr and iddat and fair conduct of divorced spouses to a reminder to make sure you pray your salah. Someone going through a potential divorce and reading the Quran for guidance may find this verse abrupt or out of place. However, it makes perfect sense. Your salah/five daily prayers are of utmost importance. You will be questioned about your salah first; everything else is secondary.

I was listening to a lecture by Muhammad Al-shareef on ‘How to be an Outstanding Wife’ (that’s my secret to being such a super wife..lol); he insisted that when couples approach an Imam/counsellor about their marital problems, the first thing they should be asked about is their salah. He believes problems typically arise when one or both spouses are neglecting their spiritual duties.
The consequences of sins are not for the Hereafter only. When we’re disobedient to Allah, we can often see the effects of our sins in our marriage. The take home lesson is if you’re fighting a lot these days you should self reflect about the state of your salah and potential sins.

3) Paper cutting

This my latest unhealthy obsession! Just give me a sharp blade and some card stock and I’m in craft heaven. If my hand didn’t start cramping I would probably go on for hours. I LOVE IT!!!

There’s so much that can be done with  paper. All sorts of household decor, greeting cards, 3D objects ..ah the possibilities!

Insha’Allah I will unveil some of the stuff I’ve been working on in next week’s post on my Office re-do. Stay tuned!

Paper cut craft sillhouette Anniversary gift

Paper cut craft silhouette Anniversary gift

I made this for our Anniversary…what you guys think?

We don’t have any of our pictures on display because we don’t display pictures that have eyes on them etc.

So this silhouette idea is very exciting!

I cut out the outline in black card stock paper and put it against sparkly gold paper.

I am really happy with how it turned out. Now I just need to put it up.

Hope you all have a super fun weekend! Don’t forget to check out the Craft Bazaar at the Salam shop this weekend.

What crafts or hobbies do you guys do for fun or even as a business?
